SALTILLO, Coahuila, July 24, 2008.- Mexico
defeated Trinidad & Tobago 3-0, the
triumph they needed as a gift to their
supporting fans during the NORCECA Women’s
Junior Tournament.
The Mexicans, who won 25-14, 25-11, 25-13
forced the definitions of the sets, one
way of maintainin a good rhythm while
Racing tomorrow the strong team of United
States.
Although they are already qualified to the
2009 World Championship in Tijuana as
hosting country, they don’t stop making
the effort and giving their best in
preparation for the competition at their
own soil.
None totalled double figures, and local
Karla Sainz was the top contributor with 9
points, followed by Andrea Rangel with 7.
Tomorrow in Day Four, dedicated to the
quarterfinals, the Puerto Ricans will face
the Canadians and the host team will close
against the Americans, while Cubans and
Dominicans watch from the stands waiting
for their rivals in the Saturday’s semi
finals.
Samuel Ciprián, coach of México: “We faced
our opponents with respect, they are in
the beginning phase but have a great
physical potential, players with excellent
natural conditions for volleyball, we know
the effort they do, but we do what we have
to for respect to them, to the fans and
because we wanted to win as fast as
possible, because for us, the tournament
started today, and tomorrow we will try to
advance against United States, we are very
optimistic.”
Nicholson Drakes, coach of Trinidad &
Tobago: “I am very profd. Of my players,
despite all the problems with their
captain being sick, they did their best
effort and I am very happy with
participating in this tournament. I hope
that with this experience, plus others in
NORCECA, things will be better.”
Xitlali Herrera, captain of Mexico: “It
was a game that did not demand a lot from
us like those against Cuba and Puerto
Rico, but it was good to get the win,
something we expected so much.”
Arielle Folkes, acting captain of Trinidad
& Tobago: “A very interesting match since
the start, because we played against the
local team, but we played hard and tried
to be as united as possible.” |
